Beds and Bed Treatments

The complete dressing of beds involves both the soft furnishing and the upholstery departments.

The Upholstery department undertakes the making of mattresses and bolsters, the making and covering of coronas, supply or recovering of bedheads or in the case of early 18th century four poster beds the applying of material to all the visible timberwork, namely the Georgian bed at Hampton Court and the Handel House bed, Illustrated below.

The Soft Furnishing department has the task of making bedspreads of differing styles, bed valances, bolster covers and in addition for four poster beds, the inner and outer valances often ornately trimmed, the bed curtains, coverlet and base valances
